Great review, very insightful. Unlike this movie, the show was very aware of the double standard these women represent. Miranda, in one early episode where the girls are all at a diner talking about their relationship troubles, suddenly stands up and blurts out something to the effect of: "Don't we have anything else to talk about? We are all college educated women. We could talk about work, art, literature, politics but all we end up talking about is men. It's like 7th grade but with bank accounts." That is when I started to pay attention. The show had something more on its mind then what made it into this movie and the characters really did change and grow over the course of the series. I think it really needs a serialized long form medium to express its ideas. Imagine if they made a Battlestar Galactica movie that was 2 1/2 hours long. It wouldn't have time to do justice to any of the ideas explored in the series. And the show isn't called philosohic insights of well-to-do New Yorkers. Its Sex and the City so the focus is on relationships and high society among women in New York. And that is truth in advertising, my friends.
