The Daily Show picked up on ‘the monster’ the Republicans have created by their fear and manipulation based campaign. One video shows an old lady at a McCain rally who says that that she doesn’t trust Obama because he’s ‘an Arab’.

McCain grab the mike and says no mam, that’s not true, he’s not an Arab, he’s a decent family man…

Hilarious, if it weren’t so sad.

In the same show Aasif Mandvi, ‘senior brown corrspondent’, clarifies that “there’s no mathematical reason why someone of Arab descent could not also somehow love his family.” It’s a great skit of his, worth watching if you don’t know it yet.

Very funny. I often think making fun of those horribly stupid things that are being said can be so much more helpful and revealing. Simplifying, saying things out loud most of us wouldn’t dare to think makes us so much more aware of hidden racism, including our own.

I can’t get with that assessment at all. What you’re overlooking here is that despite these valiant attempts by Republicans, at painting Obama as a Muslim, he still leads in poll after poll.

Why is the candidate of “hope and change” so mum against the “muslim” charges? He’s leading!

Why is the candidate of “hope and change” passing a FISA bill with immunity for telecoms that illegally recorded Muslim American phone calls?

Why is the candidate of change voting for the Patriot Act? Or pledging Jerusalem to the Israelis?

Why is the candidate of change scared to visit a mosque? Or scared to let two towelheads sneek into a campaign photo?

Because Obama really doesn’t care about Muslims as much as some want to believe. Because he is all hype, and no substance. A Colin Powell endorsement means little. Powell is nothing but a yes-man…oh wow, he’s endorsing a popular candidate with a surging lead during the late stages of the general election…what a bold move!

Your article is great for people who buy into voting for the “lesser of two evils”, but isn’t that really more of the same instead of change?

From 1987 to 1989, I had the honor of working at the same office as Colin Powell when he worked at 5th Corps HQ in Germany. When you spend any time in the military, you learn two immutable truths. You learn that rank is not indicative of a person’s leadeship or skills… and you learn that generals never talk to privates. Gen. Powell plainly destroyed both those truths the first day I met him. He is a natural leader who would tear into any officer who did not hold the welfare of his troops first and foremost. I did not get along with most of the officers I served with in 23 years of armed service, but I will go on record and say that I would follow Colin Powell down the barrel of a cannon if he asked me.
