The problem is I'm seeing the two-state deal being dependent on an agreement between people rather than a system of law. Assume tomorrow Palestine and Israel make absolute peace and live in harmony.

Then a militaristic leader grabs control of either one. Instantly all our work is gone. For their to be lasting peace there needs to be a police force regulating that peace, and that's not anyone's job, despite the US liking the good cop role.

Stability in these governments is key. Over in that area we see all kinds of instability, and it doesn't make me optimistic about a lasting peace. Maybe Netanyahu threw Obama a bone, but they have such different politics that I find it very difficult to see them working functionally together. What happens when Netanyahu finally takes pre-emptive defensive measures against Iran?

Well, you're much more knowledgeable of all this than I am, so I'd be happy to have my errors pointed out to me. I'd also be interested to see what you think of the coverage Newsy gave the story (you can find that at http://www.newsy.com/videos/newsy_in_depth_israel_and_the_u_s), since the sense I got from their video was that Netanyahu definitely was not willing to work towards peace.
